Dina has been in love with Erik since the fifth grade. They have been good friends, and they were even the official "love team" in school till high school. Their classmates believed that they were officially together, although the contrary is true.
During their sophomore years, Erik had to transfer to another school because his mother could no longer afford a private school. He did not even bid goodbye to Dina. Dina just learned about this on the first day of school when all the talk was about Erik leaving. Her tears are the only witnesses to her misery.
"How could Erik do this to me? I thought I was special! If he can tell me where he was going for summer break, how come he can't tell me that he's transferring to another school?", Dina thought.
Years passed. Although she and Erik occasionally saw each other during school breaks, they never really got to talk about the incident. They still remained close. They spent quality time together, and were still as sweet to each other as ever.
College came. She heard stories about Erik's girlfriends. It was expected of him to do that. After all, Erik was a hot commodity then. There's no reason why girls wouldn't fall for him. The news did not make her sad because she had her share of relationships, too.
Christmas saw Erik surprising Dina with a visit. They haven't seen each other for almost a year, so she wasn't sure if it was really Erik who came knocking on her door. But her heart kept beating fast. That was the only thing that told her that it was indeed Erik.
After dinner and pleasantries, Dina and Erik were alone in their favorite place. With only the moon and the stars listening to them, Dina asked, "Why are you here? I mean, after all these years, why decide to see me now?"
"I just realized how much I missed you Dina. I've searched the cities for girls like you, but I guess you're truly unique. I guess that's why I love you so much", Erik responded.
"What?"
"You heard me, Dina. I may have searched the world for true love, but I realized that I'll never find it since I left my heart here."
"Where?"
"Here. Right here with you."
That conversation happened 10 years ago. Today, we still talk about that particular encounter. Especially in Christmas.
