Ten "Green" Date Ideas

You care about the earth on more than just a theoretical level—the world is definitely a better place with you in it! Recycling, reducing and reusing; you make an effort to green every aspect of your life. So what about dating?

There are plenty of ways to have an eco-friendly date, and unique opportunities exist in every community; but I’ve got ten quick green date ideas to get you started thinking about green romance.

Ten Green Date Ideas:

1. Go for a hike. And while you’re at it, bring along a couple bags to pick up trash you see along the way. You can even make a game of it—whoever collects the most has to pay for the first round of drinks when you get back!
2. Spend a few hours exploring the Farmer’s Market and then head home and cook a delicious, organic dinner for two.
3. Pick up a couple cups of fair trade, organic coffee and browse the used book store. Buying used books is a great way to reduce waste and reuse perfectly good items that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
4. Support local, independent musicians by seeing a live show and enjoying music that you can both appreciate.
5. Volunteer at a local charity or fundraising event together. A couple that works together for the good of humanity stays together!
6. Go dancing! Dancing is great exercise and it requires little or no destruction of natural resources. Just be sure to bring your reusable water bottle along to keep you hydrated.
7. Have a green picnic with reusable plates, organic gourmet goodies, and the chance to spend time in a gorgeous, natural setting with your sweetheart.
8. Leave the car at home. No matter where you go—leave the car and walk, ride bikes, or take the train.
9. Support local businesses. Rather than going to chain restaurants or clubs, patronize the unique businesses owned by people in your community.
10. Go to a rally! Show your spirit and activism by attending a rally for a cause you both care about. Afterward you can drink coffee and spend hours sharing your ideas for a better world.
