Top Rules of Engagement

While there are no strict rules when it comes to engagement, there are some things you may want to think about.

Engagement nowadays can be done any number of ways and should be specific to the couple and special for both of them. Engagement can be formal and traditional or off the wall and unique. Whatever the manner of engagement, it still means you want to spend the rest of your life with that special someone. Before considering engagement, though, be aware of some of the issues surrounding it and note the top rules of engagement.

1. Are you ready for engagement? If you are planning an engagement, you should be well aware of all your partners good and bad points and be willing to live with them. Make sure you are suitably compatible and have a solid future together.

2. How will you propose? Before an engagement, make sure you have an idea of how you will pop the question. Asking someone to marry you is an important step in a relationship and one that should be memorable. Before asking, think about the ideal way to do it and how you can make it the most special occasion of your life.

3. Do you know how to purchase an engagement ring? Whether you have a lot of money or are on a budget, before buying an engagement ring you should have some idea of what the other person likes or whether she would like to pick it out herself. You should also have some basic diamond information so you get the best deal.

4. How are you going to tell everyone about the engagement? Once she says yes, you can start to tell everyone. Typically the parents should be the first to know about an engagement. After that, are you going to call everyone, email, send announcements or hope that word gets around?

5. Are you going to have an engagement party? While a party is not necessary, it is a nice way to help celebrate your upcoming nuptials. This is especially true if you plan on having a long engagement and have a long time to plan the wedding.

6. What are some of the details that should be resolved during an engagement? Let’s face it, your life will change. There are financial consideration, living situations and life event planning to discuss before you make that final commitment. Make sure those issues are discussed and agreed on before marriage.

7. How long after the engagement should you get married? How long of an engagement you have is often a personal preference. Many times it depends on how elaborate a wedding you will have and how long it will take to plan.
