Do I Still Love My Ex?

After a break up it can be difficult to move on. Everyone’s been there. The sleepless nights, wondering where they are, the anger, the sadness and the general roller coaster of emotions that occur after a breakup...but do you still love them?

Regardless of who did the breaking up, you generally run through the gamut of emotions before being ready to move on again. Eventually, though you pick up the pieces and get on with your life. Maybe you are even ready to start dating again. But what if it feels off? What if you have a great date sitting across from you and you know you should be having a good time but your mind continually wanders back to your ex. Are you still in love?

Perhaps you are still in love but don’t take thinking about your ex on your first date after a break up as the tell tale sign you are still in love. You can not be ready to move on with your life or get into a serious relationship again for awhile but not still be in love even if it seems like that may be the case. Really the only person who can honestly answer the question of whether or not you are still in love is you. But in order to answer that you need to be ready to be completely honest with yourself.

Is it love or loneliness? If your ex came back in your life tomorrow would you hesitate before taking them back? If the answer is yes, you may have some other things going on in your head besides love. Perhaps you have some commitment issues. Maybe you are afraid to trust someone again. Maybe you just want to be alone for awhile longer. But you still may want some companionship and your mind starts to wander toward the familiar. Your ex is a logical person to think about when you’re lonely. But that doesn’t mean you are still in love with him or her.

Think about the relationship you had with your ex. Was it a positive one? Who did the breaking up? Do you regret it? If after all your soul searching you honestly think you are still in love, then you should probably make sure to take some more time to get over it. Stay busy and occupy yourself with work and friends. Eventually you will get over it and be ready to embark on the next chapter of your life. After awhile you won’t even think about the question of whether or not you still love him or her.
